The headquarters of TANATEX Chemicals are located in Ede, the Netherlands. We’ve been benefiting from the excellent water quality there since 1966. Over the years, we’ve expanded our headquarters with the addition of production facilities and laboratories that now accommodate more than 130 employees.

Production facilities

  • Formulation, mixing and blending of viscous liquids requiring heating and cooling (batch size range: 1,000 - 15,000 litres)
  • Preheating of raw materials
  • Gas-neutralisation (NH3)
  • Sulphonation capabilities
  • Quaternation processes
  • Storage facilities
  • Labelling & drumming services
  • Four synthesis reactors (3.5 – 15 m3)
  • Ten mixing units (1.0 – 15 m3)
  • Four dissolver units (5.5 m3)

Sustainability efforts on the site

As a chemical manufacturer, we believe that sustainable production is not just a responsibility, but an absolute necessity. One of our top priorities is to implement sustainable solutions in every aspect of our global operations. From the responsible sourcing of raw materials to the continuous optimisation of our production processes, we are committed to minimising our carbon footprint and conserving natural resources.

In all our efforts to keep our production footprint low, we try to implement thee Trias Energetica: (1) reduce energy usage, (2) enhance sustainable resources, and (3) minimize fossil. And then (4) repeat.

On the roof of our production building in Ede, 850 solar panels generate about 16% of our local energy consumption. This is equivalent to the energy consumption of 85 Dutch households. While it’s a great step forward in our sustainability ambitions, we continue to build on these every day.

The use of natural gas is still needed for heating. We are constantly looking for opportunities to reduce our overall gas consumption. Due to several efforts in optimising the production heating processes in 2023, the Ede production site has managed to reduce 100k m3 natural gas. In the future, we will strive to become less dependent on natural gas. We will take small steady steps towards a CO2 neutral production site.

Compliances and permits

Our location in Ede is home to a number of specific chemical production facilities, storage and processes. For this reason, we are a designated ‘Seveso III company’, which means that we have specific responsibilities when it comes to safe work practices, the environment, surrounding urban areas, and open and transparent communication with local residents. We have fully embraced these obligations and make every effort not only to meet them, but to exceed them.

Each year we welcome external government agencies such as ODRN (the environmental service for the Nijmegen region), the fire department and the Netherlands Labour Authority. These agencies conduct audits to assess our compliance with Seveso III and other legislation and regulations.

The following are our current compliances, certifications and permits:

  • Versatile environmental permit
  • ISO 9001
  • ISO 14001
  • High level Seveso-III facility
  • REACH-compliant raw materials
  • bluesign® system partner
